On 13 December 2016, the general assembly of Suno Norway decided, in accordance with the statutes, to dissolve the organization and end the cooperation with Arshi Nagar, Bangladesh.
SUNO-Norway or SUNO-Norge is a Norwegian not-for-profit run by Wera Sæther, raises money for, and informs about, traditional folk music preservation- and education for children in Bangladesh. The aim of the organization is to empowers children and youth through music education carried out by Arshi Nagar in Bangladesh.
SUNO-Norway financially supports Arshi Nagar, which provides for vocal and instrumental training for children north in Bangladesh. It is the traditional folk music, which was about to disappear when these activities started in 2004, that is carried on through education for children and through digital preservation.
SUNO-Norway is a voluntary organization and wholly dependent on donors and enthusiasts who believe in this work of both carrying on a rich tradition as well as empowering children living in hardship. New members are always welcome to join who believe in the organization’s work. Membership free is 500 NOK per year.
In Bangladesh, Arshi Nagar teaches more than 800 children in the traditional folk music of the two districts Lalmonirhat and Kurigram in Bangladesh. The children and adolescents get vocal and instrumental training. Arshi Nagar also runs a dormitory for children, whom of various reasons need a new home.
