Samhati (সà¦à¦¹à¦¤à¦¿) is an organization of and for Bangladeshi women founded in 1984 by Bangladeshi women living in the Washington D.C. area. For many years, Samhati worked with Mahila Parishad (the largest womenâs organization in Bangladesh) to build, establish and support the first womenâs shelter in Bangladesh, called Rokeya Shadan, for which Samhati has provided a total of over $160,000. Rokeya Shadan is located in Dhaka, the capital, and continues to provide shelter and assistance to women of various backgrounds. During the last several years, Samhati has focused its efforts on transforming entire villages by providing income generating opportunities through adult literacy classes, functional and vocational education and training, leadership building, and services and classes to improve sanitation and health. All our projects support ecological sustainability. Samhati believes that assisting and empowering women results in improving the conditions of children, families, and the entire community therefore, all projects of Samhati are woman-focused.
