Pediatric Education Development Society International (PEDSI) is a voluntary not-for-profit organization formed in New York, USA comprised of Bangladeshi physicians and nurses who are committed to promoting medical educational activities in USA and developing countries, specially Bangladesh. has a core of qualified Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) volunteer instructors
has established American Heart Association (AHA) International training center in Bangladesh to train experienced Bangladeshi physicians as BLS and PAL instructors to offer essential pediatric lifesaving courses in Bangladesh
has conducted PALS and APLS courses in Bangladesh and Zimbabwe
offers healthcare education and CPR awareness programs for students and parents in immigrant communities in New York
is involved with American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to promote Global Health initiatives for improvement of maternal and child health
has donated Defibrillators and âResuscitation kitsâ which included essential equipment required for monitoring and stabilizing critical patients.

Maksud Chowdhury, MBBS, MRCP, FAAP, President
Dr. Chowdhury is the founding member of Pediatric Education Development Society International. He received his MBBS degree from Chittagong Medical College. We worked as Surgical resident in Dhaka Shishu Hospital and as Pediatric & Neonatal resident in Saudi Arabia. He completed his DCH & MRCP degrees from UK and completed his Residency in Pediatrics in New York. He is currently Associate Professor of Pediatrics at St. George University and Attending Physician at Coney Island Hospital, NY where he has received multiple teaching awards. He is the past President of Bangladesh Medical Association of North America (BMANA) where he organized multiple CME conferences and cultural events. He is involved with multiple charitable organizations in USA and Bangladesh.
Waseem Hafeez, MBBS, MD, FAAP, Medical Director
Dr. Hafeez is the founding member of Pediatric Education Development Society international. He received his MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College. He completed training in Pediatrics at Dhaka Shishu Hospital and in New York. Since 1990 Dr. Hafeez has been working as an attending physician in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at The Childrenâs Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), and he is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. He has received numerous awards in New York Medical College, at CHAM and at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is the Medical Director of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) at the Montefiore Life Support Training Center. He has published research articles in medical journals, and written textbook chapters on various topics. Apart from volunteering in PEDSI, he has been to medical missions to Haiti and teaching programs in Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
Shamim Begum, MBBS, FACP, Treasurer & Director of Women’s Health
Dr. Begum received her MBBS degree from Chittagong Medical College. She worked as Medical officer in Saudi Arabia and completed her Residency training in New York. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. She was an Attending Physician at Lincoln Hospital where she received multiple teaching awards. Currently she works as an Attending Physician in Long Island Developmental Disabilities Service Office, as well as provides medical care in an immigrant community in NY. She is life member of Bangladesh Medical Association of North America. She is involved with multiple charitable organizations in USA and Bangladesh.
Yasmin Hafeez, BA (honors), RN, Vice President
Mrs. Yasmin Hafeez recieved her Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in English and completed her RN degree from New York. She has been a Staff nurse for 20 years and has training in med-surg nursing and currently works at Mother – Baby unit at Nyack Hospital. She has training in BLS, PALS and NRP programs and has been involved in training programs in NY, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Apart from volunteering in PEDSI, she has been to medical missions to Haiti and teaching programs in Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
