Masjid Baitul Mukarram, Astoria (also known as Astoria Islamic Center, Inc.) is a mosque built by Bangladeshi community in New York. In addition to the daily 5 prayers, it runs weekend school, weekly Tafseerul Quran program, women’s taleem, adult Quran learning program, and a monthly lecture/seminar on a particular topic. Assistance on Islamic burial services are also provided. Weekend and summer school for Islamic learning are conducted with minimal fee.
Activities of Masjid Baitul Mukarram:
1. Tafseer-ul-Quran
Is held every Saturday after Maghrib prayer
Highly qualified Imam, Abdullah Kamal, graduated from Al-Azhar University, gives lectures in detail, based on Quran and Hadith in four different languages: Bangla, English, Urdu, and Arabic
2. Free Quran class for male adults
Is held every Wednesday after Maghrib prayer teaching Quran with Tajweed rules
Class is taught by the Imam
The Imam gives his undivided attention to the class, in order to make sure Quran is learned correctly
3. Sistersâ program
Held twice in a month, on Tuesday at 12 p.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.
Sisters learn Quran with tajweed, meaning and discuss hadith
Taught by a sister qualified in Islamic education
4. Free family and matrimonial counseling
Imam gives advice in choosing a partner in order to have a peaceful and Islamic family life
5. Khatm-e-tarawi in the month of Ramadan
The Quran is recited during tarawi from the beginning to the end in Ramadan
Iftar arrangements are made by muslims of the community during the month of Ramadan in the masjid. Everyday, about 90-100 people attend Iftar and Maghrib prayer.
