Australia Bangladesh Council of Victoria was founded by Bangladeshi community living in Melbourne in 1998. The community’s need for practice Islam, teach Islamic education to next generation of Bangladeshi-Australian and create a strong bond among all the Muslim communities helped create the organization. Australia Bangladesh Council of Victoria also known as Australia Bangladesh Islamic Council (ABIC). The council facilitates prayers, regular madhrasha education for children, mortuary and funeral arrangements for Muslim brothers and sisters. A Board of Mutawallis (BOM) is responsible for the governance of Islamic activities of Australia Bangladesh Council of Victoria (ABCV).
ABCV works to create a social and cultural networks among Bangladeshis living in Melbounre, Victoria. The Bangladesh-born community in Victoria is the second largest in Australia, after New South Wales. Living predominately in the local government areas of Wyndham, Maribyrnong and Monash, a high proportion of Bangladesh-born migrants are working as professionals in the fields of education, health and community services. ABCV promotes culture, tradition and language of Bangladeshi and supports newly arrived migrants.
